About me

I’m Rachael. First time Mum trying to navigate parenthood while balancing my own mental health battles with toddler tantrums.

Capturing The Negative started as a way of me being able to write down a lot of my thoughts and attempt to organise them. I have always found writing and journaling a helpful way of coping with my many emotions.

I struggle with my mental health, this is no secret. I often have depressive and anxiety filled moments, which at times make life very difficult. At the moment I am on the waiting list for an ADHD diagnosis which if positive, explains a lot about my entire life and lifestyle.

Since 2008 I’ve had an interest in photography, more specifically black and white photography, it is one of my escape methods. I take pride in capturing candid special moments that many often miss. I prefer being in the moment rather than “say cheese” and fake poses.

In June 2022, we welcomed Freddie to our bubble so my focus turned into attempting to be the best Mum and role model for him. Parenthood has many ups and downs and that’s exactly what Capturing The Negative is about, the unhidden reality.
